Sound Healing & Reiki by Caro

Caro and I met in her space and shared cacao and sound, surrounded by flowers, soft incense, and sparkling stones that she had brought back from her last trip to Sicily.

We talked about our love for sound and for nourishing spaces of rest, softness, and presence; the beauty of moving towards what makes us feel alive; and the courage it takes to give this aliveness within us more and more space.

We need to slow down to feel our beating heart, this pulsing energy within, and this voice that knows the way. Caro loves to create these spaces to slow down and listen through her crystal singing bowls and reiki practice.

VARELCLAY pottery studio by Lola Vilches, Hamburg

We need time to observe and listen to the world silently, to simply be in a state of wonder. Visiting Lola in her studio reminded me of that again.

Lola’s work stems from this attitude: her pure curiosity, her long glances out of the window and her intuitive, playful creative process with clay.

Lola creates from what she observes and is moved by in everyday life, in those moments that often go unnoticed. Her works all possess a natural lightness and vulnerability to me. They are alive. They remind me of the beauty in the everyday.

Lola told me, “I often don’t know what will happen when I sit down with clay. Every piece turns out differently. I don’t like perfection; it makes me lose the moment and lose myself. I often make mistakes, too, but then something unexpected emerges from them. I work with clay because I want to express myself. Without much of a plan. I simply want to feel and put all of that into the clay.”

Healing Strings Sound Healing

There's nothing more beautiful to me than healing instruments that are crafted with the utmost precision and artistry. I had the pleasure of experiencing Healing Strings and their handmade Tambura.

Silva first let her fingers move over the delicate wood, then intuitively across the strings. Her gentle touch created the most dreamy, powerful waves of sound. The Tambura carries a quality that is both light and grounding. Stable and gentle. Continuous vibrations and rich overtones that instantly brought me into a feeling of being carried and held. A soothing, warm resonance throughout my whole body.

Ink artist Jiang Sanshi in her nature studio in the mountains of Taipei, Taiwan

The Taiwanese ink artist Jiang Sanshi invited me into her world – her nature studio in the mountains of Taipei. Every morning, we walk into the mountains and find a spot on a rock beside a creek and sit in silence for a while, a warm cup of tea in our hands. Beside us, an empty piece of paper on a stone. We find ourselves in the midst of motion and stillness, sound and silence, force and tenderness, light and shadow dancing on the paper. Jiang Sanshi comes here daily and paints to give expression to all that she perceives when she listens. I watch how the ink finds its way on the paper, how it interacts with the stone underneath, the dancing shadows, the wind and water. Painting, as I learn from her, is an attitude of openness. It is a way of breathing with all that is.

Sunlight filters over smooth moss-covered rocks as clear water flows through a shallow forest stream, capturing the quiet beauty of natural textures, movement, and light in an intimate outdoor landscape.
